The role of the guidance officer is to provide guidance and counselling support to schools and their communities to enhance educational access, participation and outcomes for all students in a supportive school environment.

Guidance and counselling support includes both direct service delivery to children and their families and indirect service delivery to schools through consultation, collaboration and the provision of in-service and professional development programs.

The role of a Guidance Officer can be very diverse and ideally caters for the specific needs of the local school community. Parents and care givers are encouraged to contact the College on (07) 4090 4333 if you have any concerns regarding your child’s educational, emotional, behavioural or vocational welfare.

Currently the College is served by two Guidance Officers. One looks after the two primary campuses and the other is based at the Senior Campus.

Our Guidance Officers at NPA State College may perform tasks including:

  • Developing a welfare structure and supportive processes in the school.
  • Providing a counselling service and case management to assist in decision making and problem solving about critical, educational, personal, vocational and welfare issues.
  • Providing specialist advice, recommendations and reports in areas concerning disabilities, learning difficulties, developmental levels, psychological and emotional concerns, social development, behaviour, behaviour management and welfare.
  • Where appropriate, administering appropriate psycho-educational assessment and interpreting, reporting and assisting in the development of relevant support programs.

Please do come in for a chat or make an appointment if you have any concerns.
