Staff update First Aid qualifications

Practical bandage instruction.

A large number of college staff took the opportunity to undertake a range of training programs in the last week of July.

These programs will equip staff with the appropriate qualifications to provide stroke correction and swimming instruction to babies, infants and school age students in the pool and to provide First Aid for students and members of the public in a wide range of circumstances.

Some participants also completed their Bronze Medallion in Life Saving - a challenge in the cold water and strong winds blowing on the day. Later in the day participants moved to the New Mapoon Council conference room to complete the First Aid component which included practical applications of bandages and splints and first response treatment for other medical emergencies.

Instruction was provided by Ms Eve Fraser from Oz Swim and the courses offered were a rare opportunity for staff, as the remoteness of the college does not allow these training programs to be regularly available.
