2013 Year 12 Formal

Our year 12 formal was held last week at the beautiful Loyalty Beach venue. This was the first time we have used this location and it didn’t disappoint. With the backdrop of sand, ocean and setting sun students felt like they were on a photo shoot at an exotic location. Stunning in their beautiful dresses, colourful shirts and ties and with one student arriving on his horse as the sun went down, a fairy-tale atmosphere was created.

The graduating students were formally introduced to the guests who consisted of family and friends, teachers and local community representatives.

A meal was shared followed by speeches from two of the student leaders who expressed their appreciation to their families who have supported them in their schooling and nurtured their growth. Appreciation was also given to their teachers, both primary and secondary, who have helped them reach their senior year.

Mr Gordon Herbertson, the new college principal, and councillor Eddie Newman then spoke of the importance of education in indigenous communities and how this group of senior students are role models for other year levels.

After the speeches everyone gathered at the water’s edge for a candlelight ceremony. Students placed a candle in an origami lotus flower they had made at school, placed it in the water then pushed it out into the night, carrying with it their hopes and dreams for the future.  The night ended with family and group photos and no doubt these pictures will serve as a wonderful memory for a magical night.
